Perthshire paddlers aiming to impress at Junior World Cup series event in Germany

Perthshire paddlers are ready to make a splash on the world stage this weekend.

Three Strathallan Canoe Club members, who train at Bridge of Earn, have travelled to the city of Augsburg in Germany to race in the Junior World Cup.

Findlay McLean, Tally McLean and Alistair Ross will be hitting the water from June 30 to July 2 as part of the European Canoe Association’s six race Junior World Cup Series.

They will be competing against some of the best European paddlers in their age groups.

Findlay, who is the current J18 Scottish Schools champion and the Scottish champion at J18 in C1M, as well as holding the J18 C2 Scottish trophy with his sister, Tally, will be competing in the J18 C1M.

Tally will be competing in the J16 K1M class and Alistair, who currently holds the J16 C1M Scottish trophy, will be switching to the J16 K1M class. All three are pupils at Strathallan School.

Findlay, who is the canoe club captain, said: “It’s great to be out in Europe paddling new courses.

“We are all looking forward to the competition at the weekend, hoping it goes well for all the Scottish paddlers.”

Jane Gibson, the club’s head coach, added: “It is a great opportunity for these talented young paddlers to compete in their international age groups.

“The Augsburg Eiskanal was the site of the first Olympic Canoe Slalom event in 1972 and has been the host to numerous World Cup and World Championships since then.

“It won’t be easy for our young stars, but they will learn so much and hopefully have great fun.”

Paddling along side Findlay, Tally and Alistair are Pinkston Panthers and CR Cats paddlers Leah Cameron in K1W J18 and Arthur Jacques in J18 K1M.
