Perth netball player Olivia Doherty selected to represent Scotland U15s in top tournament

The latest successful milestone in the young career of a rising Perth netball star has been reached.

Olivia Doherty is making final preparations ahead of representing Scotland at England Netball’s U15 National Academies Tournament this weekend.

Matches will be played against top opposition across Saturday, August 26 and Sunday, August 27 at the University of Wolverhampton.

Olivia’s selection comes off the back of months of hard work.

“This achievement means a lot to me, even being selected for the long squad was such an honour,” said Olivia, who is a Strathallan School student and plays for Perth City Junior Netball Club.

“But to have the opportunity to be one of the 12 is such an amazing feeling.

“When the news of my call-up came through I felt a huge sense of relief as I had worked so hard over the past few months and to know that it had paid off gave me a great sense of pride.”

Alongside Scotland, the tournament is set to welcome teams including Manchester Thunder, Saracens Mavericks, North East Phoenix, London Pulse, Severn Stars, Central Warriors, Team Bath, Leeds Rhinos, Surrey Storm, Loughborough Lighting and Wales.

Olivia explained: “At the tournament I am expecting the playing standard to be extremely high.

“I am hoping to gain a greater understanding and experience playing at such a high level against both pathway squads and other national squads such as Wales, Team Bath and London Pulse.”

Pulling on the national jersey this weekend will add to a successful year on court for Olivia.

“Over the past year I have represented my school, Strathallan, my club Perth City Junior Netball Club and my district Perth and Kinross throughout the seasons,” she said. "That has improved my game consistently.
