Peppa Pig introduces first same-sex couple with lesbian polar bears

Popular children's cartoon Peppa Pig has introduced its first same-sex couple.

An episode which aired on Monday morning saw the character Penny Polar Bear drawing two female polar bears in dresses alongside her friends.

Explaining her sketch to pals including Suzi Sheep and Danny Dog, Penny said: "I’m Penny Polar Bear. I live with my mummy and my other mummy.

"One mummy is a doctor and one mummy cooks spaghetti. I love spaghetti."

Peppa Pig has been running since May 2004 and is one of the most popular TV shows for children of pre-school age.

It shows Peppa and her little brother George enjoying everyday adventures with Mummy Pig and Daddy Pig.

Following the airing of Monday's episode on Channel 5, several people took to social media to welcome the LGBT characters, reports the Mirror.

One person wrote: "No ones talking abt for peppa pig now has two lesbian polar bears? I find it very sweet that peeps pig is lgbtq friendly."

Another user said: "Ok imma start by saying I have a 4 yr old cousin lol… THERE ARE LESBIAN MOMS IN PEPPA PIG????? adult shows struggle to do representation and peppa pig are just out here giving us lesbian polar bears???"
