Jamie Carragher gives verdict on Manchester United and Arsenal Premier League chances

Jamie Carragher has given his verdict on Manchester United's chances of finishing above Arsenal in the Premier League this season.

Erik ten Hag's side recorded their fourth successive win in the league at Old Trafford on Sunday as they beat the Gunners 3-1. Antony got his United career off to the perfect start with a debut goal after just 35 minutes, sparking pandemonium in the stands.

Bukayo Saka equalised for the visitors just before the hour mark as the North London side threatened to get back into the game. However, two goals from Marcus Rashford inside nine minutes of each other put a stop to any potential comeback from Mikel Arteta's side.

The result sees Arsenal stay top of the table, but United are gathering momentum as they adapt to life under Ten Hag. Carragher however, is not sure if the Reds will be able to get the better of the Gunners in the league table at the end of the season.

Speaking on The Overlap, the former Liverpool defender said: “I think Arsenal will finish above Man United. Arsenal are a better team than Manchester United right now.

"Arteta’s three years in, Ten Hag is just starting and he’s gone a little bit more pragmatic because he can’t play the way an Arsenal team is now. I think in two or three years time, the way Arsenal performed on Sunday, that’s the way United will play, playing from the back all the time, playing through the lines.

“I admire what Ten Hag has done. So right now, I think Arsenal have the edge, but squad-wise, that’ll be Arsenal’s big problem – if they get injuries to certain players.”
