Pep Guardiola pinpoints Man City's defensive errors in Tottenham defeat

Pep Guardiola blamed his side's poor defending at the far post for a last-gasp defeat by Tottenham Hotspur.

Harry Kane out-jumped a static Kyle Walker to head home Dejan Kulusevski's deep cross, moments after Riyad Mahrez 's penalty appeared to have earned City a late point.

And while Guardiola felt his team played well in general, he was not entirely happy with the way Kane dictated the attacks that hurt City for the three goals.

City's defeat leaves them six points ahead of Liverpool, who beat Norwich earlier in the day and have a game in hand; if they beat Leeds at Anfield on Wednesday the gap is down to three.

The Blues were undone by two goals from Harry Kane, who also played a big part in Dejan Kulusevski's opener, in his first meeting with City since their failed attempt to sign him last summer.

Guardiola said: "We knew after three defeats they will be here and it is a team whose shape is so deep, Harry Kane on Rodri you have to be sharp and find the actions.

"There was practically no space and after that when they recovered the ball if they can keep contact with Kane they have a few touches to give runs to (Heung Min) Son and (Dejan) Kulusevski.

"We were there all the time for crosses, shots but we could not do it."

On the three goals, he added: "Every goal is different. It's difficult to defend the second one, especially coming from five to 10 yards behind. It's not easy. The third one, we defended badly at the far post. "

Last time City lost in the league, to Crystal Palace, they won the next 12, and Guardiola was philosophical about what happens next.
