Pep Guardiola must find a way to stop Man City from relying on one of their biggest strengths

Speaking after Manchester City's 2-1 defeat of Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Wednesday, Pep Guardiola was understandably happy that his side had once again shown remarkable powers of recovery.

After 80 minutes of laboured probing of an excellent Dortmund side, City managed to score two goals in the last 10 minutes to turn a damaging defeat into a win that puts them firmly in control of the group.

"The first years I was here we would never ever come back. We did not have the ability to come back," Guardiola said, and he was right. In five of their last 10 matches in all competitions - two coming at the tail end of last season - City have fought back from losing positions to win points.

In recent seasons there have been games against the likes of Crystal Palace, Wolves and Tottenham when City have fallen behind and never looked like mounting a comeback. Now, there is an expectation that they will find a way, even when playing poorly.

Their new-found comeback ability is quite remarkable and reminiscent of neighbours Manchester United in the late 90s and 2000s. However, this simply can't go on forever. Guardiola put his side's struggles on Wednesday down to his players not finding their rhythm, to not playing in the "right gear" and to Dortmund's excellent defending of the pockets and channels that Kevin De Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan usually attack with ease.

But if Pep cannot find a way for City to overcome these obstacles and avoid flat performances, then there will come a time when they come up against a team that does not allow them to make a remarkable comeback. If that happens in the Champions League then the outcome could be
