Pep Guardiola gives update on Cole Palmer's Man City future

Pep Guardiola says Cole Palmer's future remains uncertain at Manchester City.

Highly-rated forward Palmer played a bit-part role last season and wants more game time in the forthcoming campaign. The City starlet has been doing his upmost to prove that can be at the Etihad Stadium.

Palmer shone for England's Under-21s as they won the Euros earlier this summer, with vital contributions in the semi-final and final. Instead of taking a rest after the tournament, he returned to City training on his own volition so he could take part in the pre-season tour of Asia.

The 21-year-old took his chance in the Community Sheild against Arsenal and scored a great goal. However, despite the departure of Riyad Mahrez he is still behind Bernardo Silva and Phil Foden in the pecking order.

There has been strong speculation Palmer could leave this summer, either on loan or on a permanent basis with Brighton and West Ham showing interest. Guardiola says Palmer's future is still not yet set in stone.

"Cole [Palmer] is with us. Today he is with us," he said. "What is going to happen, I don't know. I understand he wants to be more active than the previous season.

"But Riyad [Mahrez] has gone so we have one more place there. I cannot say anything because, of course, all the decisions need to be made by the club. The club has to decide what the best is. All together, we will do it."

Kyle Walker's future has also been up in the air as the right-back had seemed to be edging towards a move to Bayern Munich. However, the latest reports suggest the right-back has had a change of heart and will stay with the Blues.

When asked about Walker, though, Guardiola remained tight-lipped saying there was 'no update' just yet.
