Pep Guardiola gives perfect response to Sir Alex Ferguson Manchester United exit

In a tribute to Sir Alex Ferguson's unparalleled legacy in football, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola hailed the Scotsman as the sport's greatest ever manager.

His comments follow the news that Ferguson was relieved of his ambassadorial duties at Old Trafford, for which the Scot pocketed a reported £2million-plus-a-year. It also comes as Guardiola weighs up his future at City after winning the Premier League title for the fourth time consecutively - an achievement within an eight-season spell which totals six top-flight titles.

Ferguson's impressive haul of 13 titles over 26 years stands tall, yet Guardiola feels it's an incredible honour just to be part of such illustrious company.

Guardiola expressed the depth of Ferguson's impact by saying: "In this country and all around the world, Sir Alex Ferguson is the best. For the time, for the change of teams, for the trophies.

"Being close to one of the most important managers of all time is more than enough. It's an incredible honour for me and for all the staff, all the assistants and all the players I've had. It's not just an honour for me."

As per reports from The Mirror, the Catalan continued: "When people say; 'Pep is one of the best' that's because of the players I had, the assistant managers and the assistant coaches - and we have had many. All of them create this sense that we are good - and that is enough. I don't fight for anything else.

"For the United fans, it's always Sir Alex. Absolutely fine. I'm not saying I'm a bad manager, otherwise I could not be here for a long time and be a success. But to be the best or not, believe me, it's not important."
