Pep Guardiola gets major Man City boost ahead of Manchester United match

Pep Guardiola will have another eight Manchester City stars in training on Tuesday as the Blues prepare to face Manchester United.

City are looking to win their first Community Shield in four attempts after three straight defeats, and face an Erik ten Hag side that bested them in the FA Cup. They will also be well below their best, given most of their squad are only just returning from holiday after taking part in the European Championship.

Guardiola found two extra players for his squad on the US tour, with James McAtee and Nico O'Reilly impressing staff over the last two weeks. And the City manager will be delighted to welcome back seven stars from the Euros as well as new signing Savinho.

Kevin De Bruyne, Jeremy Doku, Ruben Dias, Bernardo Silva and Matheus Nunes were all back at the City Football Academy on Friday for testing ahead of starting their pre-season, while Nathan Ake and Manu Akanji were in on Monday. They will all be joined on Tuesday by Guardiola and the squad who landed back from the United States on Sunday morning.

That will leave just five members of the first team squad missing with three days before they head to London to face United. Rodri, Phil Foden, Kyle Walker and John Stones have all been told by Guardiola to stay away until they want to come back - with a return around the Community Shield expected.

Julian Alvarez will not be available for a few weeks after his season finally ended at the weekend with Argentina's defeat at the Olympics. Alvarez will now have to decide whether he wants to stay at City this season amid strong
