Man City suffer major Oscar Bobb blow days before Premier League start

Oscar Bobb has fractured a bone in his leg days before the start of the Premier League.

Bobb, 21, has been the standout player for Pep Guardiola in pre-season with quality performances on the US tour backed up by a brilliant assist in the Community Shield as the Blues came from behind to beat United in penalties. The winger was in contention to start at Stamford Bridge at Chelsea but suffered an injury in training that will rule him out.

City won't know the extent of the damage until a full assessment is made. Bobb could travel to Barcelona for the opinion of City's preferred specialist, although that is not certain.

Guardiola praised Bobb's unique qualities on Saturday but will now have to make do without his young star. The Norwegian's absence could mean City are missing two wingers for their first Premier League game of the season, with Jack Grealish also a doubt for the game with an injury picked up before the Community Shield.

Jeremy Doku started at Wembley, while Bernardo Silva and new signing Savinho came off the bench. Phil Foden has also returned to training this week along with England internationals John Stones and Kyle Walker; Rodri arrived back in Manchester on Wednesday as Guardiola looks to protect his players after a busy summer ahead of another congested season.

Guardiola will be asked about Bobb on Friday in his press conference, where he may be able to give an update.
