Pep Guardiola criticises assistant referee and gives worrying John Stones injury update in Man City setback
John Stones left Goodison Park with his ankle in a protective boot as Pep Guardiola criticised the match officials for their role in Manchester City's latest injury.
Stones 'doesn't look good', according to Guardiola, after he went down trying to stop Everton striker Beto in City's 3-1 Premier League win, when the forward was through on goal. Frustratingly, Beto was a yard offside, with the assistant referee behind play and therefore waiting to raise his flag for the attack to come to an end. Only when Stones had stopped the danger did the flag go up, but by then it was too late and he picked up an injury that could keep him out of City's next game.
The centre-back was substituted, and later boarded the coach back to Manchester with his ankle in a protective boot, with Guardiola revealing what fourth official Anthony Taylor said to him as he made it clear the assistant shouldn't have waited to call the clear offside.

After telling Amazon that Stones' injury doesn't look good, he told his press conference: "It's his ankle. Sometimes you have seasons like that. Hopefully the damage isn't big and he can come back soon. January will be less demanding. December has been really tough with important players injured but we are still there."
