Pep Guardiola has appeared to suggest Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea predominantly plays 'long balls'.

De Gea is out of contract at Old Trafford from July 1 and an announcement of an extension is expected imminently, but many feel the Spaniard should be let go this summer due to concerns over his ability to play out from the back.

The 32-year-old has received intense scrutiny over his role as No.1 in recent months. De Gea was at fault against Sevilla, West Ham and Manchester City in the FA Cup final and he's received criticism from fans and pundits.

De Gea won Premier League's Golden Glove award this season but that hasn't shielded him from uncertainty around his future.

Teddy Sheringham thinks a game between Manchester United's treble-winning team of 1998/99 and the current Manchester City side would be a tight contest.

United became the first English side to complete a historic treble of the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League in '99, with the final trophy being won in dramatic circumstances against Bayern Munich at Camp Nou.

It's taken over two decades for that achievement to be equalled, but rivals City joined United in the history books this weekend when lifting the Champions League for the first time with a 1-0 win over Inter Milan.

Pep Guardiola's side also defeated United 2-1 in the FA Cup final on their way to completing the treble this season.
