Penalty shoot win sees Gallants past Pirates in Nedbank Cup
Defending champions Marumo Gallants FC are into the last eight of the Nedbank Cup thanks to a penalty shootout victory over Orlando Pirates at Thohoyandou Stadium on Wednesday evening.
Gallants took the lead in the 20th minute after they were awarded a penalty when Joseph Molongoane was fouled in the area.
Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo scored from the spot to make it 1-0.
Pirates equalised in the second half thanks to Bandile Shandu who sidefooted past King Ndlovu in the Gallants goal after he was put through by Zakhele Lepasa to level the scores at 1-1.
No further goals, however, saw the teams into extra time but a further 30 minutes still could not seperate them.
In the ensuing penalty shootout, both sides missed an effort to be stuck at 4-4 after the first five penalties.
Terrence Dzvukamanja missed Pirates' sixth penalty attemp and goalkeeper Ndlovu made no mistake with his attempt to see Gallants through 5-4.
