Pele discharged from hospital as Brazil legend 'clinically stable' after tumour treatment

Brazil legend Pele has been discharged from hospital after a health scare extended his stay for routine treatment.

The three-time World Cup winner had been in Sao Paulo's Hospital Albert Einstein since February 13, initially receiving treatment on a colon tumour which was found in September.

However doctors detected a urinary tract infection which meant his stay lasted for more than two weeks.

It was a similar issue to the one that hospitalised Pele, now 81, back in 2019.

But the hospital say Pele is now in a "stable clinical condition" and has been discharged to return home.

One of the greatest players of all time, Pele was part of World Cup winning teams in 1958, 1962 and 1970 and is recognised by FIFA as scoring 77 goals in 92 games for Brazil - an all-time record.

He was the youngest player ever to play in a World Cup final in 1958 and scored the opening goal in the 1970 final as Brazil famously hammered Italy 4-1.

Pele is also one of only four players to have scored in four separate World Cup tournaments.
