Paulo Dybala to join AS Roma after leaving Juventus as PL transfer rumours come to nothing

Paulo Dybala is set to sign for AS Roma after leaving fellow Italian club Juventus on a free transfer earlier this summer.

That is according to Sky Sports Italy, which reports that the Argentina international has accepted a three-year contract offer worth around six million euros per year.

The Argentina international is set to arrive in Portugal this morning to join his new team-mates at their pre-season training camp, where he will be introduced to manager Jose Mourinho for the first time.

The 28-year-old’s contract with Juventus expired at the end of June, and he had been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League, with Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur among the clubs said to have considered signing him.

But any interest failed to materialise into a concrete contract offer, and after a potential move to Inter Milan broke down once the Nerazzurri re-signed Romelu Lukaku on a season-long loan from Chelsea, Roma were the only side left who made an approach which Dybala deemed acceptable.

The report adds that AS Roma sporting director Tiago Pinto and American billionaire chairman Dan Friedkin on the private jet which is currently transporting Dybala from Italy to Portugal.

Dybala completed seven seasons with Juventus after joining in an initial £23million deal from Palermo in 2015.

During his time at Juve, Dybala has won five Serie A titles, five Coppa Italia trophies and was a runner-up in the Champions League in 2017.

He scored a total 115 goals in 293 for the Turin club, but his role in the starting eleven had diminished in the past couple of seasons through a combination of injury trouble and the preference of manager Massimiliano Allegri to select new signings including Serbia international striker Dusan
