Paul Warne reveals Rotherham United player worry

Ogbene scored for Ireland in the nation’s 2-2 home draw against world number one Belgium at Lansdowne Road last week.

The forward’s strike was a crowd pleaser as his overhead goal drew the scores level in the first half. 

Ogbene received plaudits for his performances for Stephen Kenny’s side, which has left Rotherham concerned he may seek a move away from the club in the summer. 

Warne was also disappointed with Kenny for playing Ogbene in both friendlies ahead of Rotherham’s EFL Trophy final clash this weekend. 

“Chieo unfortunately played 90 and 82 minutes for Ireland and I’m not best pleased about that but it is what it is,” said Warne, via Dublin Live. 

“You can’t clip people’s wings, you can’t hold people back.

“If Chieo ends up getting an amazing move that his ability deserves, then good on him.

“It obviously makes it significantly more difficult to convince him to stay when he’s doing what he is with Ireland.”

Ogbene has been an important part of Rotherham’s campaign, playing 38 times for the League One leaders.

The 24-year-old has scored three goals and added three assists in League One this season. 

But Ogbene has enjoyed a more advanced role under Kenny, scoring three goals from seven caps. 

Ogbene made his debut for Ireland last June in a 0-0 draw against Hungary. 

Rotherham face Sutton United this Sunday at Wembley in the EFL Trophy final. 

It is understandable that Warne is frustrated with Kenny given Ireland played two friendly games during the international break.

On the other hand, Ogbene played himself into great form ahead of Sunday’s final. 

That could work to Warne’s benefit if Ogbene can translate those performances to club level.
