Paul Warne issues honest message ahead of Rotherham United’s clash v Charlton Athletic

Rotherham United finally return to league action this weekend as they face Charlton Athletic at home, after three weeks without a League One game.

Despite being in a bit of poorer form before their break, winning only one of their five previous league games, the Millers put in an excellent performance in the EFL Trophy which saw them walk away 4-2 winners despite being behind twice during the game.

Rotherham boss Paul Warne blamed ‘legginess’ for his side’s inability to get into the game from the off on Sunday but has insisted that this will not carry over into the league as he told The Yorkshire Post: “It’s just a psychological legginess.

“You play at Wembley, your mouth’s really dry, if you play at New York Stadium, it’s the norm.

“I don’t see it as a problem.

“They’re humans, they’re not robots. They don’t just go out and give us a nine out of ten performance, it’s difficult.”

Scorer of his side’s third goal Chiedozie Ogbene credits his manger for the focus on fitness and believes his side can now push on as he said: “The win gives us momentum. It’s a good springboard for us to go on now and try and seal promotion.”

The Verdict:

Rotherham probably did need this break from league action as it can become hard to get out of a rut, but these three weeks will have given them a chance to break out of that cycle.

Their win in the EFL Trophy was certainly a great tribute to their character as a team and highlighted their tenacity and desire to win.

However, it is essential for them to take this attitude into the league if they are to go up automatically.

Their final run of games starts against 15th placed Charlton this weekend so Warne’s side will be looking to go and get a result to boost their promotion push.
