Arsenal and Tottenham receive transfer boost in chase of Middlesbrough player

The Middlesbrough full back is currently on loan with Nottingham Forest for this season, but has caught the attention of Premier League sides.

According to the Evening Standard, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are set to wage a bidding war over the 21-year old. 

It had been estimated that Spence could be worth up to £20 million for Boro, but the Standard is reporting that he could be available for as little as £12 million this summer. 

Spence only has 12-months remaining on his contract so Middlesbrough will be looking to cash in on the England U21 international. 

Spence made his debut for the underage England side against Albania this week, which has been the reward for his fine performances for Steve Cooper’s side this season. 

The full-back has featured 29 times for Nottingham Forest this season, with the side competing for a play-off place in the Championship. 

Cooper’s side are ninth in the table, three points outside the top six but with three games in hand as the season draws to its concluding weeks. 

Spence has recently claimed that he is ready for the step up to the Premier League, with the defender admitting he wants to test himself against the very best players. 

“I always want to push myself and play with the best players and best teams,” said Spence, via Evening Standard. 

“Of course it’s an ambition of mine to play in the Premier League. I just want to keep improving and show everyone what I can do on the pitch.

“I need to stay focused, have tunnel vision and play well on the pitch.”

Spence being available for only £12 million could even see other Premier League clubs be tempted to make an offer for the player.
