Paul Scholes tells Manchester United who should be their next manager

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has told his old club who they should hire as their next manager.

Ralf Rangnick is currently in charge of United on an interim basis and is expected to move into an advisory role at the end of the season. The Manchester Evening News understands that Ajax manager Erik ten Hag and Paris Saint-Germain boss Mauricio Pochettino are the two favourites to take over at the club before the start of next season.

However, according to Scholes, there are two other candidates who United should be looking at. Speaking on BT Sport ahead of United's Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid, he explained: "I would have gone for (Antonio) Conte or (Thomas) Tuchel.

"It looks like one might be available at the end of the season. Those are two top-class coaches that strike fear into players and win, which is the most important thing. United, with either one of those managers, would be much better off."

Conte is currently in charge of Tottenham Hotspur and has suffered a rollercoaster spell at the club since joining last year. Meanwhile, Tuchel could be on the hunt for a new job next season through no fault of his own.

Since arriving at Chelsea, Tuchel has won the Champions League and the Club World Cup. However, due to the troubles regarding Roman Abramovich's ownership of the club, the German may be forced to leave.
