Paul Scholes names Manchester United moment that nearly made him cry

Paul Scholes has admitted that he 'nearly cried' when Manchester City pipped United to the Premier League title in 2012.

City went into their final match of the 2011/12 season at the top of the table on goal difference, level on points with United, and needed to match their rivals' result to guarantee winning the league. Roberto Mancini's side ended up securing the title in the most dramatic fashion, coming from 2-1 down against QPR to win 3-2 after scoring two goals in stoppage time, with the winner being scored by Sergio Aguero.

City's triumph — their first league title since the 1967–68 season — has often been described as the greatest moment in Premier League history, and it almost brought United legend Scholes to tears.

Scholes, who was speaking to former teammate Gary Neville on The Overlap, claimed that he had only cried once during his career, which came as a kid after losing a final. However, he also revealed that he almost cried when City won the league title in 2012.

"I nearly cried when City beat QPR, you know when we won at Sunderland, that was bad," said Scholes.

"It was f*****g ridiculous, do you know what though? It made it worse because City playing QPR, you just didn't think it would be a problem.

"We went to Sunderland thinking 'it doesn't matter', we didn't think we had won the league because you don't think like that, but I think it was 2-1 when our game finished, and then that happened.

"And even now you see Martin Tyler and Aguero and all that stuff."
