Paul Scholes gives verdict on Manchester United display vs Luton with key improvement needed

Paul Scholes says Manchester United found it difficult to break down Luton Town in Saturday’s 1-0 win but they got the job done by getting three points on the board.

United continued their knack of winning games by a one-goal margin with Victor Lindelof’s second-half strike proving to be the difference. The Reds got the three points but concerns still remain around their displays.

They were limited to few clear-cut chances with Rasmus Hojlund still yet to score in the Premier League. He went off after sustaining a knock after Christian Eriksen was withdrawn in the first half with an injury of his own.

Despite their poor start, the win took United to sixth in the table ahead of Newcastle’s and Brighton’s matches. However, Erik ten Hag will be left worried by his team’s persistently sub-par performances with players struggling to find the back of the net.

Scholes says the upcoming winter break could come as a chance to reset before United try to find their feet again ahead of the busy winter schedule. He told Premier League Productions: "They got the job done.

“It wasn’t a great performance, as we’ve seen, probably didn’t create as much as you would have liked. Luton made it very difficult for them throughout the game but it’s job done. They’ve won the game and hopefully now [they have] a nice little break for a couple of weeks and come back and find a bit of form."

United next play on November 26 against Everton at Goodison Park before a crucial Champions League tie away at Galatasaray three days later, with Newcastle and Chelsea to follow.
