Paul Scholes explains how Lisandro Martinez has slotted straight in Manchester United

Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has hailed the start to life Lisandro Martinez has made at Old Trafford following Sunday's 3-1 win over Arsenal.

United, just over three weeks since their 4-0 hammering at the hands of Brentford, brought the Gunners' winning start to the season to an end, meaning they registered a fourth successive victory in the process. After Bukayo Saka had cancelled out Antony's debut opener, United restored their advantage through Marcus Rashford's second goal of the campaign.

The England international added his second and United's third just nine minutes later, securing another three-point haul. While Rashford and Antony dominated their headlines for their attacking contributions, United, once again, stood up strong defensively, with Raphael Varane and Martinez each producing encouraging displays once more.

Martinez, snapped up from Ajax in July, has found excellent form since being joined in the heart of the defence by Varane for the win over Liverpool a fortnight ago. However, United now risk the prospect seeing that partnership broken up after the Argentine was forced off with ten minutes of normal time remaining against the Gunners.

Although United will be hoping it is nothing too serious, Scholes is hoping, for the Reds' case, it isn't. He has been impressed by the 24-year-old and believes being without him could disrupt the solidity Erik ten Hag has discovered.

"At United it's about the determination more than anything," Scholes said. "You know the talent is there but it's about getting up to people, stopping people, getting up to people, being solid at the back.
