Paul Merson pinpoints alarming Manchester United mentality problem after Burnley draw

Manchester United showed frailties with their mentality during the 1-1 draw against rock-bottom Burnley.

That's the verdict from Sky Sports pundit, Paul Merson, who claims the Premier League giants thought they would have 'a walk in the park' upon the restart at Turf Moor last night.

United impressed during the early stages and went into half-time with a 1-0 advantage courtesy of Paul Pogba.

The fit-again World Cup winner produced a sharp finish for the opener and Ralf Rangnick's side also had two goals ruled out for differing offences.

Harry Maguire was adjudged to have blocked Jay Rodriguez at a set-piece as Raphael Varane nodded home - while Pogba later bundled over his man to prevent an own goal from counting.

Those incidents proved telling after 90 minutes as Rodriguez earned a share of the spoils for Burnley.

However, it wasn't just officiating that cost United on their short trip to Turf Moor - according to Merson.

Speaking to Soccer Special on Sky Sports, pundit Merson said: "Man United did very well in the first half, but they came out in the second half and thought it would be a walk in the park.

"That was a bad result for Manchester United.

"They just didn't get going in the second half and Burnley thoroughly deserved a point."
