Bruno Fernandes hints at surprising Manchester United tactical preference after Watford draw

Bruno Fernandes has suggested Manchester United could be better in matches without control of the game.

United drew 0-0 against relegation candidates Watford on Saturday afternoon despite having the majority of the ball.

United had 68% possession and 22 shots yet couldn't find a goal to break the deadlock at Old Trafford.

Fernandes was asked about United's lacklustre performance after the match and he hinted towards a tactical preference, suggesting that perhaps Ralf Rangnick's side are actually better without the majority of possession in fixtures.

United have found success against some of the Premier League's best on the counter-attack in recent seasons.

"The game was the same as what happened against Middlesbrough in the cup," Fernandes told BBC Sport.

"But we didn't go through in that one and we didn't win today, so I prefer to create one or two chances and win the game and probably sometimes not have the control of the game in our hands.

I think we controlled the game well in the first half more than the second, but in the second we tried, in the last 15 or 20 minutes, to get the goal and to take more risks, but obviously, when you don't the result, it's frustrating."
