Passenger told speeding drink driver to 'slow down' in harrowing Snapchat video before fatal crash
A drink driver who lost control of her car causing the death of a passenger was told by a friend to 'slow down' repeatedly before the fatal crash. Harrowing Snapchat videos filmed in the car captured the moments before Chelsea Standage, 21, crashed.
Standage, of Barden Road, Wakefield, has now been jailed for causing the death of a 20-year-old passenger in the collision in Horbury, West Yorkshire, in November 2021. She had previously pleaded guilty to causing the death of Elliott Lemm by dangerous driving, as well as to two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving in relation to two other passengers in the vehicle, West Yorkshire Police said.
She appeared at Leeds Crown Court on Thursday (July 27) where she was sentenced to eight years and eight months imprisonment. She will not be considered for release from prison until she has served at least two thirds of her sentence, and was also banned from driving for 10 years.

In the early hours of Saturday, November 13, 2021, Standage was driving along Wakefield Road in Horbury. She lost control of her vehicle on a bend, colliding with a wall and a parked vehicle.
Standage is estimated to have been travelling at over 70mph on the 30mph road and gave an evidential breath test result of 63 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.
Snapchat videos filmed inside the car have been made public by the police. In one of them, a passenger is heard telling the driver: "I'm being serious, slow down". Captions posted across the video read: "We're only off 80mph" and "mate she's never experienced a crash ahahahahaha".
