Parklife weekender hit by heavy showers before Doja Cat's huge headline set

Heavy rain has swept across Heaton Park this evening as the second day of Parklife Festival gathered momentum. Showers were expected and had been intermittent throughout the day, with revellers donning waterproofs and ponchos as they enjoyed some of music's biggest acts.

As pop queen Anne-Marie took to the stage, the clouds started to darken as she took fans on a whistle-stop tour of some of her biggest hits including Alarm, Baby Don't Hurt Me, 2002 and Friends. The singer, wearing a bright yellow suit even brought on Moston rapper Aitch for a rendition of Psycho.

Fans seemed so engrossed in the performance that they failed to notice the start of the showers. But, as the set came to and end and Anne-Marie and Aitch left the stage, the heavens opened, with a soaking rain falling on festival-goers.

The first day of Parklife started with a short dramatic outpouring of rain just as the gates opened. But, much to the relief of the tens of thousands of people who descended on Heaton Park yesterday (June 8), the sun was out for much of the day keeping spirits high.

And while tonight's showers haven't been as bad as last year's huge thunderstorms rolled across the sky, the rain certainly put some off. Many decided to make a sharp exit, a sea of multi-coloured ponchos filing out of The Valley area and heading towards the exit.

However, there's still a number of headline acts still to take the stage her at Heaton Park. Tonight will also see Uncle Waffles take to The Valley stage ahead of American rapper Doja cat at 9:45pm. Meanwhile, over on the Parklife Stage, chart-topping producer Kaytranada will take to the stage just before 9pm, before TSHA rounds off day two of
