Paris 2024: Finn Lynch eyeing dinghy medal race spot

Sailor Finn Lynch is eyeing a medal race spot with strong finishes in Sunday's men's dinghy qualifying races.

The Carlow man placed 13th in this morning's race 7, followed by an 11th-place finish in race 8.

His performances leave him ranked 10th with a total of 99 net points, two points shy of Lorenzo Brando Chiavarini representing Italy.

With two races remaining, he will need to maintain his ranking and place between 1-10 in the opening series to qualify for the medal race which is scheduled for Tuesday.

A silver medallist at the World Youth Championships in 2012, he became the World Under-19 champion in 2014 and qualified for Rio in 2016. However, he failed to qualify for the Tokyo Games.

Lynch hopes to continue his current form as in January 2024 he finished ninth at the World Championships.

The 2024 European bronze medalist will compete for a spot in the medal race tomorrow afternoon with races 9 and 10 scheduled for 1.40pm and 2.45pm respectively.
