Paris 2024: Authorities probe 'worrying disappearance' of Rwandan Paralympian

An investigation has been launched into the disappearance of a member of the Rwandan Paralympic team.

Paris 2024 organisers are in contact with the Rwandan National Paralympic Committee and the Nanterre public prosecutor’s office is now involved in the case, which it described as a "worrying disappearance".

French media reported that the athlete is a member of Rwanda's women's sitting volleyball team who has not been seen since leaving the country's camp in Courbevoie to go to a restaurant on 20 August.

The Rwandan Olympic Committee reported her missing to police a week later, last Tuesday.

The African country's ambassador to France has also reportedly visited the location of the athlete's disappearance.

The Paralympics got under way today.

Rwanda’s 14-strong team is the largest they have taken to a Paralympics and their women's sitting volleyball side began their tournament with a 3-0 defeat to Brazil this afternoon.
