Paris 2024: Ellen Keane and Michael Murphy to be Ireland's Closing Ceremony flagbearers

Ellen Keane and Michael Murphy have been confirmed as the Team Ireland flagbearers for Sunday's Paralympics closing ceremony.

It will take place at the Stade de France which will be transformed into a huge dancefloor, with 24 French DJs hosting the final event.

The 4,400 competitors from the 2024 Games are set to parade through the venue before the ceremonial handover from Paris to Los Angeles which will be the next city to host the Paralympics in 2028.

Para swimmer Keane, who won gold at Tokyo 2020 and bronze at Rio 2016 in the SB8 100m breaststroke before retiring following her final Paris 2024 event, will carry the Irish tricolour into the arena alongside para equestrian Michael Murphy.

It will be a final honour in a glittering Paralympics career for Keane that has spanned five Games, and which began when she became Ireland's youngest athlete at Beijing 2008 aged just 13.

For Murphy, Paris marked his second Paralympic Games, having also represented Ireland at Tokyo 2021 on 'Clever Boy' (aka 'Charlie').
