Parents' heartbreak after beloved son, 21, dies at university
The family of a 'compassionate' student who died at the age of 21 have paid tribute to their 'thoughtful' son.
Ieuan Clement Mappledoram Carter, who was known as Clem, was studying at Huddersfield University when he died in 2017. His dad Ian Carter described him as a kind, thoughtful, compassionate and intelligent young man who was a 'big character' with a great network of friends.
Meanwhile his mum, Debbie Mappledoram, said Clem was as a "highly intelligent" person with an inquisitive mind who had been a 'straight As' student at Ripon Grammar School, reports YorkshireLive. An inquest being held this week into Clem's death heard that he had suffered from mental health problems, had been self-harming and experimenting with various kinds of drugs.

His mum raised concerns in a statement to the assistant coroner, Perter Merchant, about the ease with which drugs could be ordered over the internet. Clem had gone on to study at Cardiff University before moving to Huddersfield University, where he was enrolled on a pharmaceutical chemistry course.
In the statement, Ms Mappledoram said that she believed her son was on the 'autism spectrum' and that in the past he had carried out 'experiments' on himself. When he was 14 or 15 he had drunk coffee to see how long he could stay awake.
She described his mental health problems and his treatment at various hospitals including in Scarborough, Harrogate and Darlington. He had been 'sectioned' a number of times had had taken
