Paratici can seal "special" Spurs signing in £67.5m-rated "machine" who "Conte wants" - opinion

Tottenham Hotspur are set to reignite their interest in Lautaro Martinez this off-season and his arrival would be a big statement of intent…

According to reports in Italy (via Sport Witness), the north London outfit are lining up a move for the Argentine forward, having already raided Inter Milan for the free-agent signing of Ivan Perisic.

Although it won’t be easy for Spurs and manager Antonio Conte to secure him after he signed a new long-term contract extension in October following interest from the Premier League side last summer.

Italian journalist Fabrizio Biasin has also claimed that Martinez is a player that “Conte wants.”

Valued at £67.5m by Transfermarkt, the 24-year-old would not come cheap at all.

Adding Martinez to a frontline already containing Heung-min Son, Dejan Kuluseveski and Harry Kane is certainly a mouthwatering prospect and one that could help elevate Spurs onto the next level, and at least one step closer to the likes of Man City and Liverpool.

With the Lilywhites competing in the Champions League next season, Conte knows he needs strength in depth right across the pitch and he cannot continue to push Kane’s fitness to the limits by playing two games a week for the duration of 2022/23.

That, in addition to the fact that the Italian head coach has previously deployed a two up-top attacking system in the past, means a move for the Inter star makes the world of sense.

Martinez, alongside Romelu Lukau, fired the Serie A giants to their first Scudetto in 11 years back in 2020 – across 38 league appearances, he delivered 17 goals and ten assists, a feat he has since built on as last term, he bagged 21 goals in 35 games, via Transfermarkt.

It’s no wonder he has been described as a “machine” by reporter
