Paratici can land Romero 2.0 as Spurs plot bid for £50m talent, he's "ready for Conte" - opinion
Alasdair Gold has dropped an update on reported Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Alessandro Bastoni.
In a recent video posted on his YouTube channel, the football.london journalist revealed that, following a number of reports linking Tottenham with a move for the Inter Milan centre-back this summer, Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici are indeed interested in a deal for the 23-year-old defender.
Regarding Spurs’ interest in the Italy international, Gold said: “We know they also want a left-sided centre-back, I know that Conte and Paratici adore Alessandro Bastoni from Inter Milan. He’s 23, he fits on the left side of a back three very nicely, he’d be very similar to [Cristian] Romero on the right and he’d provide great competition for Ben Davies in that role.
“Big money though, I think. He’s only got two years left on his deal but there’s talk that it would be north of £50m for him, but that’s a top, top-class player. That is someone again who ticks the box for Tottenham in being 23 and young, ticks the box of being very much ready for Conte who has worked with him already – he would be class.
“For me, I’d put my money there over [signing a new] striker. If you were going to spend the big money, I’d put it on the left-sided centre-back with Bastoni because I think he would be huge. That’s one of those places in the squad where they don’t have two of.”
Considering just how exciting a prospect Bastoni evidently is, in addition to the fact that Conte already has a relationship with the defender, it is easy to see why Spurs would be interested in a move for the 23-year-old this summer.
Indeed, over his 31 Serie A appearances this season, the £60m-rated talent was in fantastic form on the left of Inter’s back three, helping his
