Pape Habib Gueye eyed for new Aberdeen role by Jimmy Thelin after impressive loan away

Aberdeen boss Jimmy Thelin is hopeful that returning loanee Pape Habib Gueye can make an impact in the Granite City,

The former Senegal youth international was brought to Pittodrie last summer for £500,000, but made just seven appearances last season where he failed to find the net. Gueye returned to Norway to join Kristiansund on loan deal back in February, and found his feet again with five goals in 11 matches for the top tier club.

The 24-year-old is back in training but will not be included in the squad to take on East Kilbride in the Premier Sports Cup clash on Saturday, but Thelin believes the forward can play a part in proceedings in the coming weeks. He said: "He (Gueye) came back on Wednesday and has had two sessions but is not going to be in the squad this time. But there a lot of games in the following weeks and it is good to have him back.

"He trained well on Wednesday and today. It is good to start knowing him as a player and as a person and we will take it from there step by step.

"He did well (on loan) and made some good goals. He played more like a winger than a striker in the games. That league is also quite competitive so it was a good way to show himself and play consistently.

Asked whether he could be Gueye could play in a wide area for the Dons, Thelin replied: "It can be (a possibility) because he has these deep runs when he plays central. But now on the wing he plays one against one, so let's see if he can find a mix. He has only had two training sessions so I need more time to make a decision. But he is already in good shape."
