Owen Beck on Liverpool lessons he has taken to Dundee as unseen Andy Robertson talks revealed

Playing for your boyhood club is every football fan’s dream. But when your team is Liverpool, that dream is far more difficult to achieve.

So when the chance presented itself for Owen Beck, he simply couldn’t turn it down. In January, when the 21-year-old was on loan at Dundee, he was recalled by Jurgen Klopp to play against Bournemouth in the Premier League. The young defender played his part in a 4-0 victory – and did what he’s wanted to do from the day he was born. Unfortunately for the left-back, to stay in the mix at Anfield he has to topple his very own modern-day hero. And the guy he rates as the best in the WORLD at his position – Scotland skipper Andy Robertson.

But after being farmed out to Dens Park again for the second half of the campaign, Beck believes Dark Blues gaffer Tony Docherty can help him get to where he wants to be. Beck said: “Robbo was obviously at Dundee United before but I didn’t talk to him about that situation. I’m sure when I go back, it might come up!

“He’s my idol and, for me, he’s the best left-back in the world. I try to take as much out of his game and put it into mine. It’s all about learning from the best, so anything I can take from him I know it will make my game better. There were mixed emotions when I went back to Liverpool in January. I was made up to be going back to Anfield and being in and around the first team.

“That’s something I’ve dreamed of doing my whole life. On the other hand, I was enjoying my football at Dundee.

“But no, when I got the call from the manager I was over the moon. It was a chance I might never have got again so just to hear that they wanted to recall me, it was another milestone that I’ll remember for my whole career.
