Overseas options for Rodgers target as Leicester to miss out on in-demand Norwich star

Norwich City are reportedly open to the loan signing of Todd Cantwell, with clubs in Greece and Spain ‘in talks’ over the midfielder.

The 23-year-old has played his entire professional career for the Canaries save for a short loan spell with Dutch outfit Fortuna Sittard. But he will fall out of contract at the end of the current campaign and could leave for nothing. Many clubs have been linked with the former England Under-21 star.

The likes of Liverpool, Arsenal, Leeds, Newcastle United and Tottenham have all been mentioned as possible suitors in the past. However, the trail seems to have gone cold, with Cantwell suffering a dip in form this season.

He was a star for Norwich during their disappointing 2019-2020 Premier League campaign. But, after helping them get back up to England’s top division, he has struggled to reach the same heights.

The Norfolk-born ace has made only five starts among eight top-flight appearances, scoring once. Rumours of a falling out with previous manager Daniel Farke seemed to hamper his progress.

And the arrival of Dean Smith has done nothing to improve his fortunes. Cantwell has not played since Norwich lost 2-0 to Aston Villa on December 14.

A change of club might be the catalyst he needs to kick-start his flagging career. And, according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth, that might be about to happen.

Clubs have until Monday night to sign players this month. Greek outfit Olympiakos and Spanish club Granada are said to be ‘in talks’ with Norwich over the schemer.

And Championship side Bournemouth have also been ‘offered the chance’ to sign him this month. The East Anglians are seeking an option to buy included in any loan deal.
