Oulton BSB: Rain keeps Ray in charge for FP2
Rich OMG Yamaha’s Bradley Ray maintained control in FP2 as rain struck the afternoon Bennetts British Superbike session preventing much of a challenge.
FS-3 Kawasaki’s Lee Jackson secured second early in the session with FHO BWM’s Peter Hickman completing the top three thanks to his morning time.
Honda’s Glenn Irwin and FS-3’s Rory Skinner were early improvers from the middle of the top ten as the afternoon action began. Christian Iddon up to seventh on the Buildbase Suzuki in the opening ten minutes before the Scotsman got into his rhythm with a move to fourth. Teammate Jackson advanced the Kawasaki into the top three, displacing McAMS Yamaha’s Jason O’Halloran, before setting his sights on Hickman next time around, with Ray remaining in charge thanks to his lap record FP1 time - despite circulating two seconds adrift in the second practice.
The threatening rain arrived as the mid-session played out and the pack hit the pits with 25 minutes left to run. Kawasaki’s Storm Stacey sitting on the edge of the top 12 with VisionTrack’s Leon Haslam and Synetiq BMW’s Andrew Irwin the first adrift, alongside MCE Ducati’s Tom Sykes and Josh Brookes as the action limped to a halt.
Haslam was the first to venture out and push the pace as he advanced the Kawasaki to ninth with a 1’34.915 with a quarter of an hour to run. A handful of riders attempting a look before returning quickly to the pits once again as the clock counted down on an empty track.
