Ospreys sail into Challenge Cup quarter-final with comprehensive win over Scarlets
The Ospreys romped into the Challenge Cup quarter-finals with a comprehensive 36-14 win over fierce rivals Scarlets in Swansea.
Tries from Adam Beard, Jac Morgan, Rhys Davies, Dewi Lake, Jack Walsh and Daniel Kasende booked their place in the last eight for the second successive season. They'll now face Lyon in Swansea next Saturday.
However, perhaps just as crucially, this European rout also saw the Ospreys reclaim bragging rights from their neighbours.
A week on from the Scarlets' 38-22 victory in Llanelli last Saturday, this was perhaps the way many had expected last week's league clash between these two sides to play out.
From the off, the Ospreys' power was telling, with the likes of Davies, Lake and Tipuric all boosting the Ospreys' starting pack in the Swansea leg of this west Wales double-header.
After a few light jabs around midfield in the opening exchanges, Mark Jones' side worked the ball to a softened edge on the blindside - with the superlative Morgan, as ever, making a few extra metres more than he had any right to do so.
The back-row got the ball back inside to Walsh, with second-row Davies stopped short. However, his boiler-room partner Beard was lining up to burrow over for the opening score after just two minutes.
The home side's fast start continued moments later as fly-half Dan Edwards sliced through the Scarlets' kick chase with ease. While the young Wales international was dragged down short, Walsh was on hand to put Morgan over for a try of his own.
Last week, the Ospreys had raced into an early lead at Parc y Scarlets which then slipped from their grasp. They might have feared similar after some lovely footwork from Macs Page allowed the young Scarlets wing to set up Wales full-back Blair Murray
