Ospreys make it two out of two in Europe after easing past Montauban
Ospreys made it two wins out of two in the European Challenge Cup after seeing off Montauban with a bonus-point 33-22 win at Stade Sapiac.
The visitors ran over three tries during an impressive first-half showing, while the hosts responded with a touchdown either side of half-time to stay in the contest.
However, two further scores made sure of the win for Mark Jones' men, who also welcomed Owen Watkin back into the fold following his return from injury.
Montauban clocked up a third try late on, but this was a thoroughly deserved win for the visitors, who now sit second in the table behind Pool 1 leaders Montpellier.
An early penalty handed the hosts a slender lead, with Thomas Fortunel kicking over for three points from the tee, but Ospreys would be up and running just two minutes later as Ross Moriarty crashed over for his side's first converted try of the afternoon.
Segundo Tuculet's yellow card for a deliberate knock-on handed further momentum to the visitors, who duly took advantage moments later when Morgan Morse went over following a rolling lineout maul.
Jack Walsh added the extras, and thought he'd got a try of his own a few minutes later, finishing off after Max Nagy skipped his way through the Montauban defence.
However, his joy was cut short after a quick TMO check, which ruled there had been a forward pass in the build-up.
But a third did arrive on 25 minutes. Nagy was involved again, setting up for Keelan Giles to go over and hand his side a commanding lead.
The hosts thought they'd managed to find a way back into it just after half an hour when Leo Aouf went over, only for his effort to be ruled out due to a knock-on.
But the French side did get their way back into the contest five minutes before the interval.
