Opinion: Why Blackpool should be one of the teams swooping for 22-year-old League One striker

Blackpool have made the step up to the Championship with ease so far and whilst the side have since dropped off slightly and fallen down the table, they have still looked fairly solid under Neil Critchley.

The Seasiders are currently sat in midtable but earlier on in the campaign it looked as though a play-off push might even be on the cards. Whilst they aren’t entirely out of the question now – all it takes is a good run of games in this division – they have dropped away from the top six.

That could be down to a lack of goals in the side, with Blackpool having the lowest ‘goals for’ rates in the top half of the division with 28 in 27 fixtures. Their two main strikers – Jerry Yates and Shayne Lavery – have seven goals apiece in the division and whilst it isn’t a bad rate by any means, they’ve not scored as frequently as of late. The former of the two has managed only two goals in his last 14 outings, while Lavery has slightly better at two goals in his last ten.

The Seasiders then could perhaps do with another option to turn to upfront and to ensure they are truly stacked when it comes to attacking options. One name that they could look to try and bring in before the window shuts then is Anthony Scully at Lincoln.

According to a report from Sky Sports (25/01, 14:43), the player is currently generating interest from a number of unnamed Championship sides and Blackpool should certainly make sure that they are one of them.

Scully fits the bill in more ways than one. He is just 22-years-old for a start, which means that he has the potential to develop into a good level of striker and could also be sold on for much more than what Critchley may have to pay for him. In addition, he is already experienced in terms of EFL
