Opinion: Reviewing Celtic's January transfer window business

Celtic‘s January transfer window business has to be considered a success, as the Hoops have brought players to the club who have already made a positive impact in the short time that they have been at the club.

Celtic signed five players during the January window, and already four of them have featured for the first-team.

That might not have happened if it wasn’t for the injury issues that the Hoops have had, but the majority of the players that have signed and played for the first-team have made a positive impact.

Daizen Maeda has played two games and has scored one goal. Reo Hatate has played three games and has been man of the match in one, and scored a great goal in another. Matt O’Riley has impressed in midfield in the two games that he has featured in.

That is three of the five players that the Hoops have signed that have made a positive impact already, which few would have foreseen. Yosuke Ideguchi suffered an injury in his only appearance so far against Alloa, but up until that point he looked a tidy.

Meanwhile, the only signing not mentioned so far, Jonny Kenny, has been injured and not featured for the Hoops so far.

Credit has to be given to Ange Postecoglou for identifying the players he wanted and bringing them to the club. He also got most of the signings completed early in the window, so as a result the Hoops didn’t need to bring in any more players on deadline day.

What is interesting about the players that the Hoops boss has identified players that have not needed time to get used to the Scottish game, they have hit the ground running.

That was also the case with a number of the players that were signed in the summer transfer window, as Jota and Kyogo, for example, didn’t need time to get up to speed
