Opinion: Pending Sheffield United agreement will be welcome news at Bramall Lane

The 36-year-old forward’s deal with the Blades expires at the end of the current campaign.

But Heckingbottom is confident that he will stay with the club that he last joined in 2015.

In the seven years he’s been with the club, Sharp has cemented his standing as a legend of Sheffield United.

He has scored in League One, the Championship and the Premier League for the club and played a vital role in their promotion campaigns through the English pyramid. 

Keeping him at the club will be a big boost to the dressing room atmosphere as he brings so much experience to the club and his teammates. 

But it is not just his experience that has proven vital this season.

Heckingbottom has led the side into play-off contention since taking over on a permanent basis following the dismissal of Slavisa Jokanovic.

It has been Sharp’s goals that have played a huge role in Heckingbottom’s success.

Managing Sharp’s minutes so that he remains fit and focused on the pitch has been a great feat by Heckingbottom, and the forward has rarely shown signs of slowing down. 

Sharp has absolutely earned the right to another season with the club having contributed 14 goals and seven assists, with United just a point adrift of the play-off places. 

Sharp even showed during the club’s two season stint in the Premier League that he has this unwavering ability to put the ball in the back of the net. 

While he couldn’t quite match the overall standard of the league and couldn’t sustain playing quite as many minutes, he was still a valuable asset to the team.
