There is a revolution taking place in Glasgow at the moment and if new Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst has his way at Ibrox, he might well lead one of his own in the immediate future.

Indeed, their fierce Old Firm rivals have welcomed several players from the Asian continent to Scottish football since Ange Postecoglou was hired and the Gers’ own coach could be inspired by that to embark on his own mission; one of bringing Dutch players to Rangers.

Joey Veerman had been linked in January with a move but there are several other talents lying about the Eredivisie that could take van Bronckhorst’s side to the next level.

When its come to the Netherlands, however, there have been plenty of success stories at Rangers with van Bronckhorst arguably topping the list in terms of quality. That being said, they did also possess the late Fernando Ricksen, and of course, Ronald de Boer.

However, the club’s Dutch roots could have been very different had one of the current Rangers boss’ former teammates joined him in Scotland.

That happens to be Robin van Persie, someone not only linked with a move in 2016, but initially all the way back in 2002.

The Flying Dutchman as he became known as nearly signed for the club in a £3m move before eventually leaving Feyenoord two years later, moving to Arsenal for around £4m.

Irrespective of the pathway Rangers have embarked on since that failed transfer conquest, they had somewhat of a shocker failing to negotiate a move to sign the now 38-year-old. That’s because in the words of Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, he became “the best forward ever.”
