Opinion: Luton Town should rival QPR for 24-year-old

Setting themselves some very high standards to match during the 2021/22 season, Luton Town will be attempting a seventh successive campaign of improving their league position when the new term starts in late July. 

Edged out by Huddersfield Town in the semi-finals of the play-offs, Nathan Jones’ side will now be looking to strengthen the squad so that they can challenge at the top-end of the division once again. 

Already seeing Kal Naismith depart, and with interest likely to be around some for their more integral first-teamers, Jones and Co. will be striving to end the summer transfer window in a far stronger position than how they started it. 

With the goalkeeping department the seeming priority when it comes to this summer, perhaps a close second is providing competition and cover for Amari’i Bell. 

The likes of Fred Onyedinma and Dan Potts did fill in at left-wing-back in Bell’s absence during last season, however, the pair are better suited in different roles. 

Perhaps a more youthful option who can initially provide cover for Bell, with the ambition of them then creating competition may be the best way to go about this situation. 

One player who would certainly fit the bill is Fortuna Sittard left-back George Cox. 

The 24-year-old, who featured regularly for the Dutch club last season, is currently on the radar at QPR, as per a report from West London Sport, as the R’s plan ahead without Sam McCallum. 

The R’s held an interest in Cox from last season, and with the young full-back now possessing just a year left on his contract, he could be made available for a relatively small fee.
