Opinion: How Celtic can win transfer battle with Premier League side

It has been reported that Celtic are in talks to sign an exciting Bayern Munich prospect.

Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg took to Twitter to disclose that the Hoops and Premier League side Brentford have had talks with 19-year-old Bayern Munich starlet Christopher Scott, whose contract expires at the end of the season.

The Tweet goes on to say that the German side want to keep the player, but he wants regular first-team football.

The 19-year-old, who is an attacking midfielder, has made two first-team appearances for Bayern, both last season, but yet to make the breakthrough into the first-team for the German champions, and as it result, it seems that he wants to move on to further his career.

There are a couple of things to say about this transfer. Firstly, it is good that Celtic are progressing ahead with plans for next season, and already looking to sign players even though the current Hoops side is in the middle of an exciting title race. That is a positive sign for Celtic going forward.

The fact that the player is an attacking midfielder is interesting. If he joins the club he could provide competition to the likes of Tom Rogic and Matt O’Riley, both of whom have played in that position for the Bhoys this season.

If the Hoops are in competition with Brentford for Scott, one wonders how Celtic can persuade the player to join the Bhoys rather than move to London and the Premier League.

The answer to that could be the Champions League. Should the Hoops win the league this season, the Bhoys will most likely gain automatic entry into the group stages of the Champions League next season.
