Opinion: Celtic talent seems certain to be loaned out once more
It was an interesting turn of events when Celtic midfielder Liam Shaw was loaned out to fellow Premiership side Motherwell in the January transfer window.
Celtic must have wanted to see how the player fared when up against Premiership sides on a regular basis, which hasn’t happened so far for the player in his time at Celtic Park.
Unfortunately for the 21-year-old, the move to Fir Park didn’t really work out, as he made only eight appearances for Motherwell.
That has to be considered as a disappointment for both the player and for Celtic, as the Hoops would have wanted the player to get regular playing time for the Fir Park side.
As Shaw is only 21-years-old, he still has a lot of playing time left in his career, indeed, he is only at the beginning of his career. As Shaw has played 24 games for Sheffield Wednesday, the majority of those in the Championship, he has experience of playing in a league where you need to perform well to keep your place in the side.
Celtic have a number of midfielders in the squad, and as it stands Shaw probably won’t be a first-team starter for the Hoops, which is why it seems almost certain that Shaw will be loaned out again next season.
The player is under contract until 2025, so he still has a lot of time left on his Celtic deal. Ange Postecoglou will want to see Shaw playing regular football next season, and if the player can get a regular game on loan, then it could improve his chances of featuring for the Hoops if he does well on loan away from Celtic Park.
Maybe Celtic wouldn’t send Shaw on loan to another Scottish Premiership club after his experience at Motherwell, perhaps a move to a Championship club will seem more likely.
Shaw still has a chance of making it at Celtic, but he needs
