Opinion: Celtic star deserves better luck after latest setback

It was a shame to see Celtic‘s Mikey Johnston go off injured in the second-half of the Hoops’ 4-0 Scottish Cup win over Raith Rovers.

The player has had the misfortune to suffer a number of injuries in the past few seasons, and it has stopped him from becoming a regular in the Celtic first-team.

In his time around the Hoops first-team, the most games that the 22-year-old has featured in a season for the Bhoys is 23, in season 2018/19.

So far this season he has 19 appearances for the Hoops, and he could feature in his most games for Celtic in a season depending on how bad his latest injury issue is. That is at least something to build on for the player.

Ange Postecoglou must admire the winger, as he has been in the Hoops squad when he has been fit. It wasn’t going to be easy for Johnston to hold down a first-team spot this season, as the Bhoys have two wingers in Liel Abada and Jota who have become key men at the club.

However, against Raith Johnston had the chance to show that he belongs in the Celtic first-team on a regular basis. That didn’t happen though, as after an indifferent game, the player suffered an injury and was taken off in the 55th minute.

Instead of sitting on the Celtic bench, Johnston headed straight up the tunnel to the dressing room, presumably for treatment, after he limped off the pitch.

Only time will tell just how badly injured the player is, but after some of his past injury issues, both he and the club will hope that it is not a long-term issue.

The player really doesn’t deserve to have that happen to him, when you consider that he missed a lot of football over the past few years it will be a real shame for Johnston if he is out of action for a prolonged period.

If the injury isn’t that
