'One of the best around' - Inter Milan star would be a 'perfect' signing for Manchester United
Former AC Milan midfielder Massimo Ambrosini believes Inter Milan wing-back Federico Dimarco is a "perfect fit" for Ruben Amorim's wing-back system at Manchester United.
United have transitioned to a 3-4-2-1 system since Amorim's appointment in November and the wing-back positions are key to making it function effectively.
The club made the addition of a left-sided wing-back their leading priority in the January window and swooped for Denmark international Patrick Dorgu from Lecce. He made his first Premier League start for the club in Sunday's 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, appearing on the left for the first time, and produced an encouraging performance.
However, Ambrosini, who is now 47, believes Dimarco is a player United should consider turning to if they plan to strengthen their wing-back options further. The Italian, 27, plays on the left himself and has been a regular starter for Inter this season.
"Federico Dimarco would be a perfect fit for Manchester United's system," Ambrosini told bet365, who offer the latest Champions League odds.
"If you play with three at the back and two wing backs, he would be perfect. I think right now Federico is the best player in that position in Italy in that kind of role and even in Europe. He is in the top three players every time he plays.
"His left foot is one of the best around, he can put the ball wherever he wants."
Dimarco, who is currently in his second spell at Inter, has made a total of 31 appearances so far this season, scoring three goals and registering seven assists. His attacking output is consistent, highlighted by his return of six goals and eight assists last term.
The left wing-back has also earned 28 caps for Italy, scoring three goals and claiming six
