One natural item that will banish bathroom mould and condensation this winter

With the cold weather comes increased concerns about mould and dampness in homes. Mould is more likely to form during the winter months because fewer people are opening windows, trapping moisture inside.

This excess moisture causes condensation on walls or windows, laying the groundwork for mould spores to thrive. Bathrooms are particularly prone to mould since surfaces remain wet after showers, providing an ideal breeding ground for mould in the moist conditions.

But there's a natural solution to combat the problem that involves just one item. Expert cleaner Petya Holevich suggests that introducing certain houseplants can "banish" bathroom mould effectively. Petya says: “Some houseplants can lower the humidity in the air, which can help break down existing mould and prevent more developing.”

It might seem odd but tropical houseplants, originating from humid rainforests, actually survive by absorbing ambient moisture. These beneficial houseplants do not simply reduce indoor humidity; they also act as air purifiers, clearing the air of mould spores and other toxins to stop them from spreading.

Not only practical but aesthetically pleasing, the peace lily is an excellent choice for combating mould, reports the Express. With its elegant white petals, the peace lily thrives with minimal attention, much like it does on the rainforest floor from where it originates.

Peace lilies, while excellent at purifying the air, have a downside—their sap is poisonous. Petya warned: "These purifying plants need very little sunlight to survive, so they're an excellent choice for bathrooms without windows. However, peace lilies can be toxic to animals if consumed, so keep them out of reach from pets."
