Spanish Foreign minister assesses Middle East situation with Euronews

"We will do as much as possible for a peaceful future for the Palestinian in a Palestinian state," José Manuel Albares, Spanish Foreign Minister told Euronews in an interview in which he made clear that Spain will continue defending the two-state solution. “Certainly, Gaza belongs to the Palestinian and the people living in Gaza," José Manuel Albares said.

He also showed concerns about the "violent settlers that kill also innocent Palestinians in the West Bank", considering this "against international law" and stressed the need for Palestine to "be under one single Palestinian Authority" that should live "in good neighbourhood with a peaceful Israel". He added that "the EU have to do everything to implement it". 

In relation to sanctions relief for Syria, Albares expressed his wish to achieve "an inclusive, peaceful future for Syria", and to guarantee its "sovereignty and territorial integrity free of foreign interference". But he insisted that the necessary safeguards need to be put in place to ensure rightsof all minorities will be guaranteed. "What I want is a constitution with equal rights for every Syrian, whether it's a woman or a man, whether belonging to an ethnic or religious minority," he told Euronews.

"We are spending too much time thinking about what someone else says or thinks," Albares said of Donald Trump's statements regarding his desire to take over Greenland, adding that "what is really important" is "how united Europeans are going to be around our values". He made clear that "Greenland is part of the territorial integrity of Denmark, which is a member of the European Union."

Euronews also asked Albares about Trumps singling out Spain for its failure to meet NATO's 2% of GDP target for spending on defence.
