One Manchester United player has made Erik ten Hag's summer transfer choices clearer

Manchester United opened their pre-season campaign with a 2-0 victory over Leeds United in Norway on Wednesday night.

Goals from young pair Noam Emeran and Joe Hugill gave Erik ten Hag's side the win in a heartening display that saw a promising debut from new signing Mason Mount, the return to fitness of Lisandro Martinez and a number of youngsters making an impression.

Ten Hag fielded a youthful side in the second period and the young Reds struck twice against their Championship opponents to make a winning start to their summer schedule. But it was the performance of a first half prospect that caught the eye.

Kobbie Mainoo has been touted as the next big thing at Old Trafford after a rise through the academy ranks in recent years and he showed precisely why on Wednesday. Playing in a deeper midfield role he looked at ease, comfortable on the ball and strong in the tackle. He played in the Casemiro position and displayed a fine range of passing in a performance that reinforced the excitement building around him.

The Stockport native is still only 18 and was making strides last season before suffering an injury. He is now fully fit and by the looks of Wednesday is making up for lost time. He was involved in the League Cup winning squad last season and Ten Hag has been impressed by the teenager.
